We at Moonstruck started with a bold but easyquestion: Why should regular Indian families pay two to three times more forproducts just because they are a brand name?
Along with co-founders Subhash Jindal and Nirmal Jindal, Madhur Jindal saw this problem from inside the business world. Through OEM contracts, we sold goods to big names for many years. They would just put their own label on the appliances and sell them for more money.
The prices were set by old ways of doing things, like the standard chain of stockists, wholesalers, and retailers, with each adding their own markup on top of the brand premium, which was a high price paid only for the logo and not for better quality.
In order to fix this, we set out to break the chain with Moonstruck. Take off the markup. Give the same quality to both customers and sellers directly, and charge fair prices.
We didn't end there, though. To really make it affordable, we focused on making things in India.
